Dog Health Care Made Fun Puppy Bathing

If you own a puppy, you’ll know how stressful it can be to clean him. But don’t give up on this important bath ritual, as it is an essential part of any dog health care routine. Remember that the way you bathe your puppy teaches your dog a lot about how he has to be kept clean. If you want a well-behaved adult dog that actually enjoys his bath, follow these steps.

Before turning the bathwater on, make sure you have everything you need conveniently positioned next to you. These include a coat-conditioning spray (for long-haired dogs) and a natural-bristle brush during times of heavy shedding. Plus, you’ll need a large towel for your dog. Next, put on clothes you don’t care about getting soaked. Bathe your puppy when its hungry to get its full attention. To make sure your dog behaves well, give him some treats when in the bath. Remember, you want this to be fun. Then its time to get the brush out, which some dogs don’t like. Its important to make sure the puppy’s coat gets brushed properly before the tap comes on. Rub conditioner on the puppy’s fur and massage it in.

Pay attention to the areas behind your dog’s ears. Remember to praise throughout this process and stay happy, keeping the treats flowing. Some dogs are more attentive if they have toy in the bath too. Bear in mind that a puppy with skin sensitivities should have a baby shampoo used on its head. Don’t let the water touch the dog until you are sure it is the right temperature. Now, thoroughly soak the coat with water. Avoid the eyes and ears, and keep praising. The trick with shampoo is massaging it, and this should be done in short circles. Providing you have a gentle brush, this can be used to massage the shampoo in all over the puppy’s coat. Once this is complete, rinse the shampoo and repeat the process. Keep rinsing the shampoo out to give your puppy a clean finish. Finish with a conditioner for dogs and wrap your puppy in a large towel.
